(CTE) Digital Music Production

Music Production ll

In this course, students will deepen their understanding of music production by mastering Ableton Live, an industry-standard digital audio workstation (DAW) used by music professionals in studios and live performances worldwide. Through hands-on projects, students will learn advanced techniques such as sampling, synthesis, MIDI programming, audio recording and mixing, developing the technical skills necessary for professional music creation. In addition to production, students will analyze the music they enjoy, exploring elements like song structure, sound design, and production styles to gain insight into what makes their favorite tracks stand out. Furthermore, they will examine the connections between their favorite artists and broader cultural and social movements, fostering a deeper appreciation of how music reflects and influences society. By the end of the course, students will have created original compositions and refined their ability to critically engage with music from both artistic and technical perspectives.

Advanced Music Technology & Business

This course provides students with exclusive insights from GRAMMY-winning artists and multi-platinum producers who share their experiences, challenges and strategies for building sustainable careers in the music industry. In addition to learning from successful musicians, students will hear from leading behind-the-scenes professionals who will break down essential industry topics such as copyright, contracts, royalties, licensing and distribution. These industry insights prepare students to navigate the business side of music, equipping them with the knowledge to protect their work and make informed career decisions. All of this learning culminates in a capstone project, where students will apply their skills to create, produce, and release an album, marking their official industry debut. This project will not only showcase their creativity and technical abilities but also give them firsthand experience with branding, marketing, and digital distribution, ensuring they leave the course with a professional portfolio piece ready for the real world.
